At first I installed rpi-audio-receiver which did not work out. So, I installed gmediarenderer-ressurect which is now finally working - more or less. The AV receiver may seems the obvious choice even in 2.0 but that’s a waste of money comparing ot a good hifi receiver. Not sure how much more the AV Receiver would be, but it clearly would be the future proofed solution. Alternatively you could use HDMI and hifiberry and use the audio autoswitch addon to switch between both. newest volumio (2.587) with pi3b+hifiberry dac here. the farthest i got, was getting bluetooth to connect, but it didn’t play any sound via the DAC. this was with the method by vrdsp0 on page 3. the method by OP didn’t even let me connect bluetooth (it connected after pairing, but instantly disconnects afterwards. repairing doesn’t help).

Hello I've just received a HiFiBerry Digi but i'm having problems trying to make it play anything. Everything seems OK accroding to your guides but, i still see "NO DATA" in my AV Receiver (Marantz SR4300) neither by SPDIF nor by TOSLINK.
I am long fan of the HiFiBery Dac+ Pro, it got me into playing with DACs and a lot more digital audio. Previously Vinyl and CD was preferred.
